National Foster Care Month – Honoring Dan Hall

Foster careMay is National Foster Care Month and the perfect opportunity to honor Dan Hall. Dan is a leading programmer for DocuTrac and the foster/adoptive father to five children afflicted with alcohol, drug exposure, and mild to severe mental health issues.

Dan is dedicated to helping other parents with foster/adopted children or those who wish to provide foster care. He has worked closely with our county Department of Social Services (DSS) to improve the quality of the services they provide. Dan also teaches and lectures on foster parenting, and has co-trained with the DSS.  We are proud of Dan and support his commitment and passion in teaching others about the responsibilities and issues involved in foster care.

About HIPAA Email Encryption Requirements

mailDocuTrac takes HIPAA regulations very seriously. Often those regulations are confusing especially where email is concerned. Hopefully none of you are sending any information regarding your clients in emails that are not encrypted.

The repercussions for not encrypting your emails to assure security of your clients’ protected health information can be devastating. Click here to read an article written by the Chief Privacy Officer of Protected Trust, an encryption service company, explaining HIPAA email encryption requirements and why you need to encrypt your emails.

What you should know about Vista

If you are using a computer with Vista, here’s what you should know. In April 2012 Microsoft ended mainstream support for Vista meaning that Microsoft no longer provides improvements and the Vista warranty is expired. However, Microsoft is still providing security or reliability patches during the Extended Support period.

womanExtended support will end next year in April 2017. At that time Microsoft will longer provide any security or reliability patches. What this means is that you will no longer receive updates that can protect your PC from viruses, spyware, and other malicious software that can steal your personal information or your clients’ protected health information. So plan accordingly to update your operating system to help remain HIPAA compliant.

PQRS - What is and do I need to do it?

PQRSThe Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) is a Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) program launched in 2006 to reduce fraud, optimize payments, improve quality of care, and link payments to performance.  If you have never heard of PQRS or are just beginning, here are some key things to consider when deciding on your approach:

puzzle1)  Determine if you can report as an Individual or qualify as a group
2)  Decide on the method of reporting you are eligible to use
3)  Select the measures that pertain to your practice

Measures?  Reporting? How do I know if I am even an Eligible Provider?  This PQRS Implementation Guide from CMS has all the information you need to get started. If you participate in PQRS, it is highly recommended to use a certified registry as your reporting method.  Reporting claims as an individual is still allowed, but can be complicated. It is crucial to know all the codes that you can submit.

It’s not too late to participate. The reporting year for 2016 is January 1st through December 31st 2016.  If you are not participating in PQRS and are an eligible Medicare Provider, then you are subject to a negative payment adjustment of 2.0% or more depending on certain criteria for the payment year of 2018.

DocuTrac Employee Receives PQRS Certification

PQRS certifiedWe are pleased to announce that our DocuTrac employee Heather Washburn has successfully completed the PQRS/CQM/MIPS Project Manager course and exam receiving her certification through 4Medapproved Certification.
