Protecting Your Practice from Data Breaches

We frequently hear or read in the news about data breaches. According to Erin McCann, Managing Editor at Healthcare IT News, “More than 41 million people have had their protected health information compromised in HIPAA privacy and security breaches.”

There is no doubt that a breach could be devastating for a practice. The first step to avoid a breach and keep your patients’ information safe is to conduct a risk analysis. This link to the Security Risk Analysis Video from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT will help get you started.

 An important word of advice…

WindowsIf you plan to install Windows 10, please be sure to first BACK UP all your data to an external drive. This can’t be stressed enough. Data loss can be very frustrating and costly.
