QuicDoc® & Office Therapy® March 2017 Newsletter |
During the month of March we celebrate the contributions of social workers to our society. Social workers improve the welfare of communities, individuals, families, and groups promoting development, empowerment, and beneficial change. This month we pay special tribute to our customers who are social workers and honor all social workers for their relentless efforts and dedication to the well being of others. Jane Addams was an early influence on professional social work here in America. She was a founder of the U.S. Settlement House movement, and was one of the first women to ever receive a Nobel Peace Prize. For more information on the history of social work, visit the Social Work History page on the National Association of Social Workers website. Vista Support Ends in April Extended support for Windows Vista operating system will end April 11, 2017. Next month Microsoft will no longer provide any security or reliability patches for Vista. What this means is that you will no longer receive updates that can protect your PC from viruses, spyware, and other malicious software that can steal your personal information or your clients’ protected health information.

For more information and for details on this service, call TriZetto at Opioid Addiction and e-PrescribingElectronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances (EPCS) is legal in all 50 states with a majority of providers sending prescriptions electronically. However, according to HealthIT.gov, far fewer are electronically prescribing controlled substances such as opioid drugs. An estimated 80 percent of abused controlled substances are obtained by prescription and legally dispensed. September 2016 statistics show that only 3.8% of controlled substances were electronically prescribed, the rest were hand written prescriptions that can potentially be diverted or misused. The National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA) in the Policy Report No. 385 states that mandatory electronic prescribing would allow doctors, pharmacies, and law enforcement to better monitor inappropriate opioid use, drug-seeking behavior, and reduce drug diversion. The Center sees EPCS as a ‘commonsense solution’ for the opioid epidemic. Prescription drug monitoring in DrFirst® is effective for addressing prescription drug use and abuse. You can monitor patient medication adherence, obtain key details about medication history, as well as information on drug allergies and formulary information. QuicDoc® with DrFirst is certified and approved for EPCS. For additional information regarding electronic prescribing, please call our Sales Department at 800-850-8510. Brooke’s House UpdateIt seems no community is immune to the devastating effects of the opioid epidemic, including our own. Brooke Erin Simmers died of a heroin overdose at the age of 19 on April 14, 2015. To ensure that Brooke’s life was not in vain, her parents created the idea of building an addictions facility for women. Their vision was to create “Brooke’s House as a legacy to their daughter’s struggle with addiction.” Brooke’s House is a community resource to help save the lives of other women struggling with drug abuse. It is a public charity organization operating under its own IRS 501(c)3 non-profit status.
